High Point feels built for occasions. The old house, the dim rooms, the sense that dinner should take its time. For Misty’s birthday, that was exactly right. Not flashy, not trying too hard, just a place that understands a celebration is mostly about giving people room to enjoy each other.

Rare ahi tuna got things moving, clean and delicate, followed by a Bibb salad before the meal settled into the serious business of filet mignon and Brussels sprouts. The steak was the centerpiece, rich and tender, the kind of plate that makes conversation briefly stop because everyone has more important work to do.

A Stella handled the early part of the evening, then a Francescan red wine took over once the steak arrived. Dark fruit, structure, enough weight to belong beside the filet without overwhelming it. The sort of bottle that makes dinner stretch another half hour without anyone noticing.

Birthdays don’t really need much. Good food, a beautiful room, a bottle worth lingering over, and someone you’re grateful to be sitting across from. High Point gave us exactly that.
