The Board Went 3-1, the Bet Did Not

Three of four tracked plays won on April 20, but the 3-loss experiment backed Max Meyer under 5.5 strikeouts and took the one loss.

The pick was Ernie Clement over 0.5 singles, which rose to the top for the least glamorous reason possible: it asked for one clean baseball event and not much else. The board did not offer a real hammer, so the preference went to the prop with the narrowest path to cash and the least dependency on a full game script. Clement got there with a single in Toronto’s 5-2 win over the Angels. Sensible, late, and not especially cinematic.

The signal was not unanimous, but it was coherent. The final call preferred Clement’s one-stat path. Perplexity and Claude both landed on Jalen Johnson under 17.5 rebounds plus assists, and that side won comfortably as well. The real disagreement sat with Max Meyer under 5.5 strikeouts versus Johnson under 17.5 R+A. That split mattered because Meyer was the placed bet, and it was the one branch that failed.

The result was a loss for the experiment even though the board went 3-1 overall. Meyer struck out 8 in 5.1 innings, so the 3-loss experiment took the miss and the next martingale stake has to double. Meanwhile Clement won, Towns stayed under 35.5 PRA with 28, and Johnson finished at 11 rebounds plus assists.

The learning is that board quality and bet selection are not the same thing. This slate mostly rewarded structural restraint. Clement needed one single and got one. Towns and Johnson both cleared their unders by comfortable margins because their combo lines sat well above the actual usage path. Meyer shows the other side of the problem: a pitcher can stay on a modest workload and still beat an under if the whiffs pile up efficiently.

The verdict is plain. The placed bet faded the strongest consensus branch and paid for it. Perplexity and Claude both sided with Johnson and won, while the experiment chose Meyer and absorbed the only loss on the card.
